Textile Apparel Export to the U.S. market will be no subject to quotas

According to the United States Association
of Importers of Textile Apparel (USAITA), immediately after Vietnam
has become an official member of the World Trade Organization (WTO), quotas
reserved for Vietnamese textile and apparel exports to the USA will
be invalid. So, Vietnamese textile apparel consignments to be imported into the
USA after January 01, 2007 will be no
longer subject to quotas.
According to quota agreement between Vietnam
and the USA in 2003, textile apparel quota will not be eliminated when U.S.
Congress does not approve yet Permanent Normal Trade Relations (PNTR) for Vietnam.
However, according to the terms and condition in the bilateral agreement signed
in May, 2006, textile apparel Quota will be automatically eliminated after Vietnam
accession to WTO owing to Vietnam¡¦s
commitment to stop granting subsidies for textile apparel industry after
accession to this organization.
Year 2010: Textile Apparel export to
surpass landmark of 10 billion USD

Export textile apparel products are
considered as key export products of Vietnam
and have competitive position in the integration of regional and international
markets, stood firmly in the U.S.
market, EU countries, Japan, and are under expansion to many other countries and regions. The accession to WTO
also creates condition for Vietnamese enterprises to have opportunity to
approach new capital sources; approach high technology and advanced management
method, especially from developed countries, such as the U.S., EU
and Japan¡K..
Challenges have raised to Vietnamese
textile apparel enterprises are how about the capacity to take advantage of the
coming accession to WTO to remain high and sustainable growth rate.
Meanwhile, competition strength of Vietnam
textile apparel in the international market is still low compared to India, China and
ASEAN countries...
In order to realize the target set forth,
Vietnamese textile apparel industry is synchronously carrying out a variety of
solutions: pushing up investment for development of cotton production, yarn,
cloth; establishment of centers for providing input material and accessories on
basis of exploiting advantages of Vietnam
and supplying countries¡K
Vietnam National Textile - Garment Group (Vinatex) is promptly to carry out
tens of new development investment projects, at the same time combine to move
dyeing weaving enterprises in cities to planned industrial areas, going along
with production modernization for sustainable development. The investment
project for weaving dyeing industrial cluster at Da Nang has
put into production phase 1 grey cloth weaving factory Son Tra.
In the middle of last May, Hoa Tho
Textile Garment Company has put spinning line at capacity of 4,000 tons per
year with investment capital of 256.6 billion dong into operation. At Pho Noi (Hung Yen province)
textile apparel industrial zone, the project for sewage water treatment has
accomplished machinery installation and undergone group of machines
commissioning period in order to early put into operation. The knitting factory
has certified their acceptance of majority of machinery and equipment items and
undergone commissioning. The project for investment of fabric PE/TC weaving and
finishing factory is being carried out...
Phong Phu Textile Company has just signed
joint-venture contract with ITG Group of America
in order to construct a modern textile garment cluster at Hoa Khanh industrial
zone, Da Nang city with total investment capital of 80 million USD¡K..
