In 1995 the Vietnam Government merged the Ministry
of Heavy Industry, the Ministry of Light Industry
and the Ministry of Energy, and the Ministry of
Industry of Vietnam is established.
The Ministry of Industry is responsible for the
administration of industries in Vietnam such as:
Electricity and Consumer-goods industry throughout
the country, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy,
Electronics - Informatics, Chemicals, Geology,
Mineral Resources and Mines. |

Established in January 1995, EVN is a state-owned
enterprise with many members as enterprises or
operational organizations, conducting activities
over the whole country, in power business and
other areas of production and services connected
to power section.
With the operation of EVN, total electricity
production increased from 14.6 billion kWh in 1995
to 17.1 billion kWh in 1997, reaching an annual
averaged growth rate of 14.39%. The electric power
consumption per capita in the country increased by
25% to 250 kWh in 1997. |
