Demand for coal in Vietnam is set to surge. The
Vietnam government estimates that 10.2 Mmst of coal is
needed per year to meet increasing demand, projected
at 20,000 MW by 2010. Vinacoal, the country’s largest
coal producer, therefore, is seeking foreign
investment of more than US$750 million to construct
seven coal-fired plants with total capacity of 1,232
MW by 2010. In addition, respecting the increasing
demand for fuel on world market, many foreign
companies have shown keen interest in making strategic
acquisitions in Vietnam. |
